Wednesday, September 27 – After the ruins, we spotted a park on the map that would take us through some Roman residential neighbourhoods (you’ll see a few pics of the sunny, late-afternoon buildings below), and set off to see what we could find.

What we found was lovely – a local dog-friendly park with loads of shaded seating and a booth selling goodies ranging from ice cream bars to booze. This was an ideal spot to kick back and catch up over an Aperol Spritz – that most civilized of afternoon beverages.

We watched the dogs play as we lounged about, enjoying one another’s company on a sunny afternoon in Italy.

As we indulged in our second spritz apiece, we bemoaned the vast throngs of tourists near our apartment, and the overall state of the world in general – which is a mess. Over the course of our ramblings, we both arrived at the same conclusion: we hate people!

Not ALL people, obviously, but there are so many selfish and oblivious people out there, it’s hard not to tar them all with the same brush.

This is why we found ourselves sitting in a non-tourist park in the middle of Rome, avoiding the crowded parts of the city. In fact, it was such a lovely afternoon that we would return the next day to do it all over again!

FYI, while I will henceforth refer to it as Aperol Spritz Park, the real name of the park is Parco della Resistenza dell’VIII Settembre. You’ll agree that Aperol Spritz Park is way easier.
